A 55-year-old woman presents to the emergency department with burning on urination. She states that it started 3 days ago and has progressed to a fever today. She otherwise endorses a few episodes of nausea and vomiting. Her past medical history is notable for diabetes and hypertension, and she is not currently taking any medications. Her temperature is 101°F (38.3°C), blood pressure is 114/64 mmHg, pulse is 110/min, respirations are 17/min, and oxygen saturation is 98% on room air.
