A 52-year-old woman with hypertension presents to your clinic complaining of swelling in the front of her neck that has been increasing in size for the last six months. She also endorses a recent decrease in weight of 10 lbs in the last month, which she attributes to her new diet, as well as hot flashes that have been interfering with her sleep. She says that she sometimes feels anxious about losing her new job, but denies headaches, palpitations, tremors, or abdominal symptoms. Her temperature is 98°F (36.7°C), pulse is 88/min, blood pressure is 142/82 mmHg, respirations are 12/min, and oxygen saturation is 100% on room air.
