Snapshot A 7-year-old boy wakes up in the middle of the night with the right side of his face twitching and with speech arrest. He is able to get up and run to his parents room. The symptoms reside after one minute. EEG is normal except for prominant spike that emerges of the left central area during sleep. Introduction Benign partial epilepsy of childhood Occurs in school aged children Emerges during sleeping or drowsiness Presentation Focal manifestations, like right-sided facial twitching No LOC or significant mental status change Evaluation EEG normal except for prominant spike that emerges of the left central area during sleep Treatment Any anticonvulsant is effective at managing the seizures If the events are isolated, it may be legitimate to follow Prognosis, Prevention, and Comlications It is a benign condition that is usually outgrown
